Vancouver’s mayoral race is already breaking the records. It seems that Vancouverites are looking for change too. In some ways the local race mirror’s the US Presidential race with new entrants like Gregor Robertson attracting new voters in the same way that Barack Obama is in the US.
ancouver’s newest political party has signed up more than 11,000 new members in the past two months, giving it the largest membership of any Vancouver political party in history.
Vision Vancouver’s new members are in addition to its 2,000 previous members, putting its total membership well above the 9,000 the Non-Partisan Association claimed as a record in 2002.
The new record is the result of an intense competition for the party’s mayoral nomination among three candidates: park board commissioner Al DeGenova, Coun. Raymond Louie and NDP MLA Gregor Robertson.
